Untitled #1, 2018
Monoprint on 300gsm cotton rag paper
There's a quote from Socrates that goes like this:
“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.”
Now I don't totally agree with ol' Socrates there, that seems like a lot of pressure to put on yourself in 2021. I do remember though the amazing connection I felt with my own body once I started weight training. I remember this feeling of contentment in myself, not because of how my body looked, but because of how it felt. My body was thankful for it, and gave back to me in ways I now won't go without.
I think there's a lot of beauty in self betterment and exercise, and it breaks my heart that shame has become the center point for the wellness industries.
